  Out of MIT's Media Lab comes Hive

Infrastructure Hive is a framework for developing autonomous Java agents. Using Hive, programmers can create systems that connect and use data from all over the Internet. At its heart, Hive is an environment for distributed agents to live, communicating and moving to fulfill applications. Hive is Open Source. They are encouraging people to download and try their software and become part of the Hive community.
