There are many web-based file storage services. None of these yet act as much more than a virtual remote hard drive. But, Edd Dumbill has some ideas on centralized storage for your web apps, which could take web-based storage in a whole new direction. For some background I would recommend Edd's article entitled, "The Importance of XML Inter-Application Protocols". Through the combination of openness and co-opetition, web-apps may one day be your only apps.
